Filmmaker Dharmesh Darshan refuted his uncle Mahesh Bhatt’s comments about being the illegitimate child of Nanabhai Bhatt, as it also implied that his mother, Sheila Bhatt, was illegitimate as well. In an interview, he said that his mother was a decade older than #MaheshBhatt and that the comments he made publicly about his parents possibly triggered her descent into Parkinson’s. Mahesh, his brother #mukeshbhatt and Sheila are the children of Nanabhai Bhatt and Shirin Mohammed Ali.

Asked about his uncle’s claims in an interview with Lehren Retro, #dharmeshdarshan said, “It’s rubbish… there’s very little truth to it. Every truth can be distorted. Mahesh mama is my saga mama (real uncle), and my mother was obsessed with him. In 1939, my grandmother and my grandfather got married. The Hindu Marriage Act came in 1959, and by then my mother also was married. I didn’t even know my grandmother’s name was Shirin until Mahesh mama said it was an issue.”
