WHAT WAS CBFC DOING WHILE CERTIFYING ‘ADIPURUSH’?”: ALLAHABAD HC

The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad high court on June 26 chided the Central Board of Film Certification for clearing the controversial Adipurush in the form it did. It wondered what the CBFC was doing and asked if the Board did not understand its responsibilities. Adding that cinema was a reflection of society, the bench wondered aloud what the certifying authority wanted to teach the future generation.
It may be mentioned here that the film has come in for heavy criticism from all quarters for its inaccurate portrayal of the mythological characters, costumes and dialogues mouthed by the characters.
The court was also critical of the film’s producers and asked them to spare religious epics like the Ramayan and the Geeta. The court expressed its disapproval of the absence from court, of the producers, director and others named as defendants in the case. The application was filed by advocate Kuldip Tiwari who told the court that he first realised that the controversial film had objectionable content when its teaser was released on 2nd October, 2022.
The CBFC is yet to file its reply. The court will hear the case today (June 27).

SAIRA BANU, BUILDER SETTLE DISPUTE OUT OF COURT

Veteran actress Saira Banu last week gave her consent to the quashing of a criminal cheating case lodged by her against a builder in 2022 over a 2010 agreement for developing a prime plot at 16, Pali Hill, Bandra (West), Bombay alongwith a bungalow on it. The plot and bungalow belonged to her husband, late thespian Dilip Kumar.
The Bombay high court bench of Justices N.W. Sampre and S.U. Deshmukh on June 13 considered the amicable settlement between the parties and quashed the 2021 FIR registered against Prajita Developers Pvt. Ltd. and builders Altaf Wahedna and Arshad Wahedna at the Bandra (Bombay) police station. Saira Banu is the power of attorney holder of Dilip Kumar.
The FIR was based on non-performance of the development agreement assigned by Dilip Kumar to Prajita Developers. The dispute gave rise to multiple court proceedings and finally led to the filing of arbitration proceedings last year as it was a civil dispute. The builder filed a quashing petition this year.
The builder and the veteran actress had tendered consent terms before the HC in the arbitration petition. The dispute was disposed of in March, based on the consent terms.

Now, it’s being heard that Shah Rukh Khan and Aryan Khan will record their statements together for the same.
In May this year, the CBI alleged that evidence was found against NCB officials, and has also confirmed about summoning the superstar SRK and his son Aryan Khan pertaining to the case saying, “We will soon record the statements of Aryan Khan, who was arrested by NCB, and Shah Rukh Khan, from whom Rs. 25 crore was demanded, by the accused Kiran Gosavi and Sanville D’Souza at the behest of Wankhede.
One of the officials revealed, “Recording Shah Rukh Khan and Aryan Khan’s statements is necessary to get to the bottom of the conspiracy,”
Aryan Khan, The son of one of the biggest superstars of the Globe, Shah Rukh Khan, was allegedly arrested for possession of drugs, further kept in custody where he was accused of being a dealer with international connections. While Aryan Khan received bail in the case, followed by a clean chit clearing his name of all charges, the officer in charge Wankhede is now facing allegations of extortion against Khan family as well as bribery charges, leading to an enquiry against him.
According to reports, CBI has also filed an FIR against former superintendent of police of NCB Vishwa Vijay Singh, intelligence officer Ashish Ranjan, Gosavi and D’Souza in the extortion case.
According to these reports, while the CBI has already kick started their investigation against these officers with an enquire report in order, they are currently awaiting the court order to conduct a more extensive and thorough investigation.
The cruise drugs case isn’t ending it has become like a chewing gum.

‘ADIPURUSH’ FALLOUT: KATHMANDU BANS HINDI FILMS

Screening of all Hindi films has been banned in Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal, from today (June 19) over the “objectionable” words and depiction of Sita in the mythological film Adipurush. The announcement was made by a top city official on June 18.
Kathmandu mayor Balendra Shah said that the screening of Adipurush without having one of its dialogues deleted will cause “irreparable damage”. He added, “Screening of all Hindi films will be barred within Kathmandu metropolitan city from Monday (June 19), as the objectionable words in the dialogue of Adipurush have not yet been removed. We already issued notice three days ago to remove the objectionable portion of the dialogue that Sita is India’s daughter, within three days.” Allowing the screening of the film without the change, according to Balendra Shah, would help “establish a distorted fact”.

TWO ARRESTED FOR TRESPASS, THEFT AT SHILPA SHETTY’S BUNGALOW | 15 June, 2023

The Bombay police today (June 15) arrested two men for trespassing and allegedly committing theft at the bungalow of Shilpa Shetty at Juhu in Bombay. Both the accused are habitual offenders.
The items stolen are not known as the actress is abroad. The housekeeping manager of Kinara bungalow approached the police and complained of trespass and theft. As per the complaint, some renovation work was going on at the bungalow since May-end. Shilpa and her family members went abroad on May 24. On June 6, when the housekeeping manager visited the bungalow, he found that the household items in the hall, dining room and the master bedroom were scattered all over. The cupboard in the bedroom of Shilpa’s daughter was also found to be open, with things lying scattered. The CCTV footage showed an unidentified person, wearing a face mask, entering a bedroom by opening the sliding window and trying to steal things.

Veteran singer Sharda, whose super-hit song, Titli udi, is popular even today, more than 55 years after it was rendered by her, passed away today (14th June) in Bombay due to age-related illnesses. She was 85.
Sharda Rajan Iyengar, who was in her prime in the 1960s and 1970s, may not have been a threat to the Mangeshkar sisters when they ruled the music world but she managed to stand her own and make a comfortable place for herself even then, which itself was creditable. Among the songs she lent her voice to (either solo or with other singers) were Dekho mera dil machal gaya from Suraj, Aa aayega kaun yahan and Jaan-e-chaman shola badan from Gumnaam, Bakkamma Bakkamma from Shatranj, Baat zara hai aapas ki from Jahan Pyar Miley, Leja leja leja mera dil from An Evening In Paris, Chale jaana zara thehro and Duniya ki sair kar lo from Around The World, Woh pari kahan se laaoon from Pehchan,
Jab bhi yeh dil udaas hota hai from Seema, and Tum pyar se dekho from Sapno Ka Saudagar. She had released her own album, Andaaz-E-Bayan Aur, featuring her own compositions based on Mirza Ghalib’s ghazals. She also scored the music for films like Garibi Hatao (1973), Kshitij (1974), Maa Bahen Aur Biwi (1974), Mandir Masjid (1977), Tu Meri Main Tera (1980) and Maila Aanchal (1981). For Garam Khoon, she penned the lyrics for a song (Ek chehra jo dil ke kareeb) which had music composed by Shankar. That song was rendered by Lata Mangeshkar and picturised on Sulakshana Pandit. Besides Hindi, Sharda had also lent her voice to Telugu, Marathi and Gujarati songs.
Sharda’s maiden film song, Titli udi ud jo chali from Suraj, was tied with Mohd. Rafi’s Baharon phool barsao (also from Suraj) for the Filmfare Award for 1966 when there was only one award for best playback singer rather than two separate awards for male and female playback singers. Although the award went to Mohd. Rafi, Sharda created history because it was after this episode that Filmfare started two categories — male and female — for the best playback singing award. She went on to be nominated four times thereafter by Filmfare, and winning two awards. She sang for almost all films in which Shankar Jaikishan were the music directors including Kaanch Ki Deewar (1986). In fact, Shankar promoted her a lot. She lent her voice to many top heroines of her time.
Early in her career, she was offered a voice test by none other than Raj Kapoor when he heard her singing at Shrichand Ahuja’s home in Tehran. She was the first Indian female singer to record her own pop album with Sizzlers. It was released in 1971 by HMV.

The plea states the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed an FIR against the then former Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Mumbai zonal director Sameer Wankhede for allegedly negotiating through KP Gosavi with Shahrukh Khan | SRK and settling a bribe amount from Rs 25 crore to Rs 18 crore and then accepting Rs 50 lakh in cash in a deal to save his son Aryan Khan. It seeks the use of Narco analysis and lie detector tests to bring out the truth.

Film Family First has won 15 awards till date and it’s being invited for further screening at film festivals tells director Ayub Khan

Film Family First helmed by Ayub Khan has been making headlines since few months.
The film has won 15 awards in international and domestic film festivals in various categories.
Bollywood Reporter met Director Ayub Khan at his Millat Nagar, Andheri situated residence.
I asked, “Are you happy and satisfied with the way your career is shaping now?”
Ayub replied, ” I am happy, indeed, but not fully satisfied, the desire of doing much more better than this is still there, the hunger of making good movies has increased, this is the first achievement of my second innings, Family First has won 15 awards and is still being invited for screening in other film festivals.”
“Tell us something about your first Inning?” I asked.
Director Ayub Khan replied, ” When I joined the Indian Film Industry, I had a dream to do something great so I did whatever I was offered, I acted in few television series, likewise Mirza Ghalib, Adalat and few more. I worked as an Executive Producer with quite a few Producers, Swaroop Kumar was one of them, I assisted him in the movie Andha Inteqaam. I was lucky that maximum of the filmmakers with whom I have worked treated me like their family member.”
I asked, ” I know that once you were one of the favourites of the top actress of her time Ranjita.”
Ayub said, ” Yes, I assisted director Vinod Pandey in his heroine oriented film Apradhini starring Ranjita, we became friends, she treated me like a friend. Ranjita, as we all know was a fantastic actress and a very good human being. She was considered as one of the top stars, one can’t forget her performance in the blockbuster Laila Majnu opposite Rishi Kapoor.”
” After that, what you did to further inhance your career?”
Ayub said, ” I continued working in the Industry by doing various works, I worked as a distributor, exhibiter, I even owned a film theatre, I learned almost everything related to films.
I made three films for a Production house owned by a Holland based Doctor Anil K Mehta. The first one was Jahan Tum Le Chalo starring Jimmi Shergill, Nirmal Pandey, Sonali Kulkarni etc, it had music by Vishal Bharadwaj.”
Ayub Khan continued, “The Second film of that production house was Belagaam, the story of this movie was also written by me apart of being the Executive Producer of the movie, it was based on four bad guys Nawab Shah, Tanveer Zaidi, Mahesh Desai and Kshitij with Govinda’s nephew Aryan, Sneha Sangwan, Pramod Moutho, Rajeev Verma, Mushtaq Khan, Pinki Chinoy, Rakesh Bedi, Rana Jung Bahadur, Zahida Parween and many other famous actors. Songs written by Tauqeer Zaidi and sung by all the top singers including Asha Bhosle, Kavita Krishnamurthy, Sonu Nigam, Vinod Rathore, Kumar Sanu were hits.
One of the songs sung by Vinod Rathore ‘ Tension ko thokar maar’ filmed on Nawab Shah, Tanveer Zaidi, Mahesh Desai and Kshitij became a chartbuster, it was played on the top of the chartbuster superhits’ on television channels and on radio.”
Ayub continued, “My third film was Anjane- The Unknown, with Sanjay Kapoor, Manisha Koirala, Pramod Moutho and others, it was the last one of my first innings, I took a break as I was emotionally hurt by some people.
I left the Industry and switched over to media, but films has been my first choice always.”
” And what’s your further plans in your new innings?” I asked.
Ayub Khan replied, ” Film Family First has won 15 awards in different categories at prestigious Film festivals of the country including award for the best direction, now I want to direct few more movies with good contents. ”
I asked Ayub Khan, ” Tell me about your hometown?”
Ayub Khan said, ” I was born and brought up in Allahabad, it’s now Prayagraj.
I left my hometown nearly thirty five years ago, I love Allahabad but now Mumbai is everything for me.”

According to unconfirmed sources Yash’s team strongly advised against accepting the role. They expressed concerns that his fans might not appreciate seeing their beloved actor play a negative character, even one as formidable as Raavan.
They believed that such a portrayal could potentially impact his fanbase’s perception and loyalty.
The actor himself has been mindful of his fans’ sentiments in the past. In an earlier interaction, Yash acknowledged the emotional nature of his fanbase and their tendency to overreact when he deviates from their expectations.

Salman Khan was later banned by a certain section of the photographers. He later reacted to the entire controversy at the press conference of Kick in presence of director Sajid Nadiadwala and Jacqueline Fernandez.

A book on Irrfan Khan unvealed

Globally famous Irrfan Khan was regarded as one of the finest actors in the World of Cinema.
One of the most versatile actors in Indian cinema as well as Hollywood, Irrfan Khan, lost the battle against Cancer on April 29, 2020.
One more book on Irrfan titled, ‘Irrfan Khan: A Life in Movies’ was unvealed on June 7.
Amid the launch of this book, Irrfan Khan’s wife Sutapa was present and she expressed her wish of writing a book on her husband to reveal the funny side of her late husband.
Sutapa Khan wished her desire with words, she said, “I want it to be a funny journey, which I shared with him. People take him as a very intimidating and very serious kind of a man but he was not in real life. The book is not ready at all but I will complete it within few months ”

However, book written by Subhra Gupta-Irrfan: A Life in Movies, spade a deep dig into the journey of the globally famous actor since his National School of Drama days and follows his rise as an actor in the Indian Film Industry.
Talking about his priority while choosing a film, Sutapa also added, “Irrfan wasn’t a fanatic religious man but he strongly had faith in Islam, his intent in religion was very strong in his personality and in life. Like, what is our intent about telling the story? It has to be transparent and honest, and that was foremost for him.
The legendry actor moved away for his final destination on April 29, 2020 after his two year’s long battle with neuroendocrine tumour.
The legend is survived by wife Sutapa and sons Babil Khan and Yuvaan Khan.
Babil Khan made his debut last year with Netflix’s Qala and was lauded for his good performance.
After Irrfan Khan’s departure, Sutapa penned a heartfelt note about her beautiful journey with Irrfan Khan. Sutapa penned, “Ours was not a marriage, it was a union. I see my little family, in a boat, with both my sons Babil and Ayaan, paddling it forward, with Irrfan guiding them ‘don’t take a turn from there but from here’ but since life is not cinema and there are no retakes.”
Sutapa Khan was in tears while writing, yet she want to continue her journey happily alongside the precious memories of her husband, the great Irrfan Khan and their sons Babil Khan and Ayaan Khan.

“Our nation is democratic , here all religions are equal. How can we say that one should convert. After marriage Both people should follow their own religions. If there is so much love and it is their compulsion, then both should follow their respective religions, I think conversion is not appropriate,” the officer said.
“Bollywood is tarnishing the culture of our country and negatively influencing the children,” Khan told news agency ANI.
An IAS officer of Madhya Pradesh Cadre, Niyaz Khan on Thursday said that Bollywood is responsible for conversions and it all started from there.
Actor Tanveer Zaidi reacted on the Allegations, he said, ” Is Bollywood only responsible for all the sickness and not any other industry? Not even the Porn English and non-hindi stuffs that people watch openly or many times under their quilt?” Film and Television actor Tanveer Zaidi further said, “Ok, let’s agree for awhile that cinema plays an essential part in shaping the perceptions of the public. Let’s also agree for a while that Bollywood is responsible for conditioning the minds of the citizens of India, and let me say ‘Yes’ for awhile that actors are responsible for changing the mindset of 140 crore people of the country, then tell me how many of them have become Shree Ram, Laxman and Seeta after watching Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan?
And kindly tell me how many among us have become Shree Krishna, Arjun, Duryodhana, Dronacharya and Bheeshma after watching B.R Chopra’s Mahabharat ? Please tell me how many of us became Hanuman after watching Sanjay Khan’s Jai Hanuman?
How many have become Patriotic after watching Shah Rukh Khan’s Swadesh and became like Salman Khan after watching Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Amitabh Bachchan after watching his Bemisaal? Tanveer Zaidi continued, “I disagree and have serious objections against the baseless allegations of Niyaz Khan, I.A.S Officer.
Nowadays It has become a trend to blame Bollywood for every filth in the society.
Although conversion and embracing other religion is a topic of debate.”
Tanveer Zaidi took a pause and then he said, ” Friends and relatives are free to advise them to continue with their respective faith even post marriage, they should send the person to the counselor for councelling sessions but nobody has rights to force them.”
I asked, ” What’s your opinion about the conversion?”
Tanveer Zaidi said, ” I am against forced or bribed conversion but at the same time if one is spiritually inspired by some other religion and want to convert, then what’s wrong in it?”
Tanveer Zaidi further said, ” I favour freedom of choice likewise I favour Freedom of speech, why to worry about unforced and conversion without any bribe?
And I have already said that I am fully against forced and bribed conversion.”
“What’s your take on Honour Killings?” I ask,
Tanveer Zaidi replied, ” Same as our constitution has said, Honour Killing is a crime, that’s all.”

‘BLOODY DADDY’

Jio Studios, AAZ Films, Offside Entertainment and The Vermillion World’s Bloody Daddy is a thriller about drugs, drug dealers and Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) officers.
Sumair (Shahid Kapoor) and his assistant, Jaggi (Zeeshan Quadri), are NCB officers who confiscate a bag full of drugs while it is being taken in a car. The consignment belongs to Sikander Chowdhary (Ronit Bose Roy) who, therefore, kidnaps Sumair’s son, Atharv (Sartaaj Kakkar), so that he can force Sumair to return him the drugs. Sikander, in turn, has to hand over the drugs to Hameed (Sanjay Kapoor) from whom he has accepted payment in advance. Sameer (Rajeev Khandelwal) and Aditi (Diana Penty) are also NCB officers who are involved in the same drugs case. It may be pointed out here that Sumair, Jaggi and Sameer have their won reasons for not wanting to return the bag of drugs. But, of course, Sumair has the bigger task of getting son Atharv freed from the clutches of Sikander.
The film is based on French film Nuit Blanche. Ali Abbas Zafar and Aditya Basu have written a fast-paced, taut story and screenplay about the predicament of a father whose son has been kidnapped because he has in his possession the drugs consignment belonging to a drugs dealer. The drama engages the viewers right from the word ‘go’ and keeps them involved all through because of the many turns and twists. The tricks adopted by Sumair, the game of oneupmanship between Sumair and Sameer, the motives of the various NCB officers, and the modus operandi adopted by Sumair to ensure the safe release of his son from the captivity of Sikander Chowdhary are all so exciting and interesting that the audience get sucked into the world created by the two writers.
A good part of the drama happens in just one hotel (owned by Sikander) but if, in spite of this, monotony does not set in, it is due to the fast pace of the drama, which does not give the viewers even a minute to think. The background music is another reason for boredom not creeping in but about that, later. Dialogues, written by Ali Abbas Zafar and Aditya Basu, with additional dialogues by Siddharth-Garima, are excellent.
Shahid Kapoor is extraordinary in the role of Sumair. He plays the NCB officer and the father of Atharv so wonderfully that one can’t help but shower praises on him. In not a single scene is Shahid found lacking or going overboard. Although the film abounds in action, Shahid Kapoor does not look out of place even one bit despite not having an action image. Rajeev Khandelwal gives his cent per cent to the character of Sameer. He is lovely and does the fullest justice to his character. Ronit Roy Bose does a fantastic job as Sikander Chowdhary. He is so understated that it is a delight to watch him. Diana Penty is quite good as Aditi. Sanjay Kapoor makes his mark as Hameed. Zeeshan Quadri is fabulous as Jaggi. He is so natural that watching him perform.
watching him perform becomes a delightful experience, so much so that the audience miss his presence in a good part of the latter half of the film. He mouths four-letter words with such flourish that it looks very real. Sartaaj Kakkar is natural and endearing in the role of Atharv. Vivan Bathena (as Danny), Ankur Bhatia (as Vicky) and Mukesh Bhatt (as Hameed’s assistant) make their presence felt. Suparna Moitra is truly natural and she makes a fine impression in the role of Sumair’s ex-wife. Sachin Verma looks handsome and is restrained in a brief role as Suparna’s new partner, Akash. Vikram Mehra (as Bunty), Anant Manger (as Lokendra (Thapa)), Dawa (as Nepali Amar), Badshah (as himself) and the rest of the actors provide very good support.
narration keeps the audience engaged and entertained throughout the drama. Music (Badshah and Aditya Dev, Julius Packiam and Anuj Garg) is fair and ought to have been better. Lyrics (Badshah, GD47, Harsimran Singh and Dinesh Pant) are okay. Bosco-Caesar’s choreography is alright. Julius Packiam’s background music is extraordinary and is like another hero of the film. It heightens the impact of the drama manifold. Marcin Lashawiec’s cinematography is first-rate. Action and stunt scenes (choreographed by Craig Macrae, Parvez Shaikh and Lee Whittaker) are very well composed and they look realistic. Production designing by Rajnish Hedao, Snigdha Basu and Sumit Basu (Acropolis)) is of a fine standard. Steven Bernard’s editing is super-sharp.
On the whole, Bloody Daddy is a well-made entertainer. Its presentation, performances and background score are its major plus points.

COURT REFUSES TO CANCEL BAIL OF BHARTI SINGH, HUSBAND

Observing that it was the prosecution’s fault and there was no illegality committed by the magistrate in passing the bail order, a special NDPS court recently refused to cancel the bail granted to comedienne Bharti Singh and her husband, Harsh Limbachiya, almost three years after they were released from jail in a drugs case. The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) had moved the special NDPS court in 2020, seeking cancellation as a magistrate’s court granted them the relief after neither the NCB nor the public prosecutor representing the investigating agency appeared before the court to make submissions on the bail pleas.
The special NDPS court pointed out that when the matter was posted a day after the bail plea was filed in the magistrate’s court, the NCB neither filed reply on bail applications nor filed any application for adjournment, seeking time to file reply. “The investigating officer and special public prosecutor failed to appear before the court. Therefore, it is fault of prosecution,” said the court. It added, “There are no allegations of committal of breach of conditions of bail order granted by… magistrate. Therefore, there are absolutely no grounds made out for cancellation of bail to the respondents… The application is devoid of merits and is liable to be rejected.”
In November 2020, the NCB allegedly recovered 86.5 grams of marijuana from Bharti and Harsh’s home and office and they were taken into custody. In October 2022, the NCB submitted chargesheet in which it cited statement of accused-turned-approver Sowmiyanarayanan, a musician.

Once again the project is flashing the media headlines and now it’s being said that the Shoot might start In December this year.
Reports says that the makers are expected to make announcement around Deepawali 2023.
It is said that it’s an ambitious project for the makers.
Film Ramayan has been a topic of discussion but due to it’s zero progress, people thought that the project has been shelved even before it’s proper launch.
However, it remained as a Buzz on the social media platforms.
According to a source the film was put on hold as the makers were unable to find an actor who could play Ravana’s role convincingly.
Now it is said that the director Nitesh Tiwari has found the right actor to Portray Ravan.
Sources say that the director will cast Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt as the leading pair, but it’s not yet accepted by Ranbir and Alia.
It is said, Yash will play Ravan, probably in the film Ramayan.
The film is likely to go on floors in December this year.

‘SCOOP’ WEB SERIES: NO RELIEF FOR GANGSTER

The Bombay high court on June 2 refused to direct OTT platform Netflix to take down its web series Scoop, thereby giving no interim relief to jailed underworld gangster Chhota Rajan. The series, directed by Hansal Mehta, was released the same day. “They have published it. We’ll see on the next date,” said Justice Shivkumar Dighe when senior advocate Mihir Desai, for Rajendra Nikalje alias Chhota Rajan, urged that the series be pulled down.

Anjjan Srivastava shared few personal stuffs

Once upon a time he wasn’t less famous than any big movie star, actor Aanjjan Srivastav, the man who portrayed the quintessential common man in RK Laxman’s Wagle Ki Duniya, acted in several films and television shows in his 54-year journey as an actor.
He was equally active in film, television and in a bank, there he was employed.
Aanjjan Srivastav was known for his exclusive acting skills, his facial expressions were brilliant, he was known for his magical character roles that he portrayed in films and television shows with perfection.
Anjjan Srivastav has featured in over a hundred films.
He was doing his job in a bank as mentioned above, yep he was a banker as well. He use to juggle inbetween two professional career at the same time.
In a chat to a journalist Anjjan Srivastav recalls the time his Bharat Ek Khoj co-star Om Puri suggested him to buy a car, Om Puri said, “In our Film industry, giving good performance as an actor isn’t enough, you have to do many other things as well likewise you have to show-off certain standards, you have to pretend as a Richman, that’s very important, so get a car for yourself.”
Anjjan Srivastav has also worked with Shah Rukh Khan, he recalls working with Shahrukh Khan | SRK in Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa and Chak De India.
He said, “Shah Rukh Khan is a very good actor and at the same time he is a great human being, Stars usually avoid giving their personal phone numbers but he gave me his personal number and said to keep in touch, it was his humbleness, however he was impressed the way I co-acted with him.”
Great and precious memories of the Vetran actor Anjjan Srivastav were very interesting, indeed.
Now, once again he is getting active with his incredible performances through his web series on OTT platforms.

MUSLIM BODY CALLS FOR BAN ON ‘AJMER 92

Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind president Maulana Mahmood Madani in a statement on June 4 alleged that the due-for-release Ajmer 92 would create a “divide and rift” in the society and asked the government to ban it and “discourage those who are trying to divide society on communal lines”.
Madani described Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti Ajmeri as an example of Hindu-Muslim unity and a “true Sultan” who ruled over the hearts of millions of people. He said, “He is popularly known as a messenger of peace and harmony in the country.” The JUH president cautioned that in the present times, different ways and means were being explored to divide society on religious lines. “Movies and social media are being used to link criminal activities with a particular religion which will harm our shared heritage,” he alleged.

Bollywood’s two iconic stars, Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan, contemplate retirement. And while it’s Pathaan and Tiger happening, it becomes clear to see that the conversation is not about retiring from their spy roles as Pathaan and Tiger, but handing over the reins of the Hindi cinema to someone from the younger acting lot.
Just see Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan is said to be not a good earner in comparison to other Salman Khan starrers, still then that film has managed to collect nearly two hundred crore, it’s much more than a Akshay Kumar, Ranbir Kapoor, Ranveer Singh starrer so called super hit movies.
This is purely Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan’s magic as their not so good movies earns two hundred crore, this is the real star power.
However, the duo eventually decides to continue carrying the responsibility because “desh ka sawal hai.” Just like their characters of The blockbuster Pathaan, a majority of people including big Journalists and trade analysts have said that Salman and SRK are irreplaceable.

‘MUMBAIKAR’ REVIEW | 2 June, 2023

HR Pictures, Jio Studios and Riya Shibu Production’s Mumbaikar (UA) is the story about an aspiring police inspector, his uncle who is already a police inspector, and a kidnapping attempt gone wrong.
Sangram (Sachin Khedekar) is a police inspector in Bombay. His nephew (Vikrant Massey) also wants to join the police force. The nephew has a girlfriend, Ishita (Tanya Maniktala).
Mannu (Vijay Sethupathi) comes to Bombay from a village. He wants to become an underworld don. He joins don Shakeel’s gang. Shakeel asks Mannu to kidnap businessman Jhunjhunwala’s son but Mannu, by mistake, kidnaps underworld don Prabal Patil’s (Ranvir Shorey) son, Rahul. What happens thereafter?
The film is a remake of Tamil film Maanagaram. Amit Joshi and Aradhana Sah have penned a story (based on Lokesh Kanagaraj’s original story) which just can’t manage to sustain the audience’s interest. The screenplay, written by Amit Joshi, Aradhana Sah and Himanshu Singh, is weak, and it would appeal only to a thin section of the elite audience. Not only is the structure of the screenplay problematic but even the drama itself is irritating, at least for the masses. Climax is as weak as the rest of the drama. Amit Joshi and Himanshu Singh’s dialogues are okay.
Vikrant Massey is alright. Hridhu Haroon is average. Vijay Sethupathi impresses in the role of Mannu. Tanya Maniktala is okay as Ishita. Ranvir Shorey lends fair support as underworld don Prabal Patil. Sachin Khedekar makes his presence amply felt as police inspector Sangram. Brijendra Kala leaves a mark as the hawaldar. Sanjay Mishra has been wasted as a driver. Others are passable.
Santosh Sivan’s direction, limited as it is by the poor script, is dull. His camerawork is splendid. Music (Yugprasad Bhusal, Ramdas V.S. and Joshua Ninan Oommen) is below the mark. Lyrics (Yugprasad Bhusal, Himanshu Singh and Joshua Ninan Oommen) are hardly any better than the music. Salil Amrute’s background music is terribly weak. Sham Kaushal’s action and stunt scenes are okay. Krishna Thakur’s art direction is barely passable. Dilip Damodar’s editing leaves plenty to be desired.
On the whole, Mumbaikar is meant for a very few among the class audience. For the rest, it is an apology of a film.

ZARA HAT KE ZARA BACH KE’ REVIEW | 2 June, 2023

Jio Studios and Maddock Films’ Zara Hat Ke Zara Bach Ke (UA) is the story of a married couple in the middle-class bracket. Kapil Dubey (Vicky Kaushal) and Saumya Chawla Dubey (Sara Ali Khan) are married. Kapil is a miser while Saumya doesn’t think twice before spending money. The couple stays with Kapil’s parents (Akash Khurana and Anubha Fatehpuria). Kapil’s maternal uncle (Neeraj Sood) and aunt (Kanupriya Shankar Pandit) have been staying with them since a few months. Saumya wants to shift into a new house with hubby but they can’t afford a new house with their modest means. So, they plan to apply under the government’s housing scheme which provides for affordable houses. However, since Kapil does not qualify under that scheme, they are advised by a tout, Bhagwandas Ishwardas Sahay (Inaam-ul-haq), to buy the flat in Saumya’s name but it’s not as simple as it sounds. For this, Kapil and Saumya have to prove something. They do so without taking their families into confidence.
All hell breaks lose when the two families get to know of what Kapil and Saumya have done but they are still unaware of their plan to buy a flat. Whether Kapil and Saumya get the flat under the government’s cheap housing scheme or not would come later but the amount of difficulties, hardships and embarrassment the two families have to face is something nobody is prepared for. What happens then?
Ramiz Ilham Khan has written a story which is quite novel but several parts of the story as well as of his screenplay appear a bit contrived and convoluted at times. The drama is so round and about that the impact is diluted to an extent. While not all the comedy makes the viewers laugh, some scenes do tickle the funny bone a lot. The lesson which Kapil and Saumya learn in the end is quite convoluted as the situation and the incident which change their perspective are not very similar to the situation in which they are. Besides, the situation in which Kapil and Saumya have landed themselves in is because of their ego problems rather than because they want to buy a flat. Also, Kapil and Saumya’s noble action in the end doesn’t touch the heart if only because it looks too far-fetched. A drama of this kind ought to have made the audience weep but that doesn’t happen. In other words, it is more the comedy which works, that too in parts, while the emotional side is found lacking. The analogy between the situation of Kapil-Saumya and that of Kapil’s maternal uncle and aunt is not convincing, making the climax appear less strong. Ramiz Ilham Khan’s dialogues are far better than his story and screenplay.
Vicky Kaushal does a very good job in the role of Kapil Dubey. He shines in comic as well as dramatic and melodramatic scenes. Sara Ali Khan tends to go overboard in the initial scenes but comes into her own later. She is especially good in dramatic and emotional scenes. Inaam-ul-haq is excellent as Bhagwandas Ishwardas Sahay. Himanshu Kohli is outstanding in the role of advocate Manoj Baghel. He makes the courtroom scenes hilarious. Sharib Hashmi (in a special appearance) is effective as guard Daroga but the last scene in which he interacts with Kapil and Saumya looks like a forced attempt to get him into the main story. Akash Khurana and Anubha Fatehpuria lend fair support as Kapil’s parents but they don’t have anything significant to do. Neeraj Sood makes a lovely mark as Kapil’s maternal uncle.
Kanupriya Shankar Pandit shines as Kapil’s maternal aunt. Vivan Shah is lovely as Kapil’s cousin. Rakesh Bedi leaves a fine mark as Saumya’s father. Sushmita Mukherjee lends average support as Saumya’s mother. Srishti Ganguli Rindani is alright as Mehjabeen. Dimpy Mishra makes his presence felt as Dimpy Sir. Atul Tiwari is entertaining in the role of the judge. Others are adequate.
Laxman Utekar’s direction is nice but his narration does have its limitations mainly because of the script. Sachin-Jigar’s music comprises a hit song (‘Tu hai to mujhe phir aur kya chahiye’) and two extremely melodious numbers viz. ‘Tere vaaste’ and ‘Saanjha’. Amitabh Bhattacharya’s lyrics are weighty. Song picturisations (Ganesh Acharya, Vijay Ganguly and Ruel Dausan Varindani) ought to have been far better. Sandeep Shirodkar’s background music is good at places. Raghav Ramadoss’ cinematography is nice. Production designing (Amit Ray and Subrata Chakraborty) and art direction (Dilip Ganpati Rokade and Nilesh Vishwakarma) are of a fine standard. Manish Pradhan’s editing is quite sharp.
On the whole, Zara Hat Ke Zara Bach Ke is a fair entertainer with hit music being its biggest asset. It will, therefore, do reasonable business at the ticket windows. Frankly, considering the revenues due from sale of digital, satellite and audio rights, the film is already in the zone where the risk is minimal.
Released on 2-6-’23 at Inox (daily 8 shows) and other cinemas of Bombay thru PEN Marudhar Cine Entertainment. Publicity: quite good. Opening: okay. …….Also released all over. Opening was average at most of the places.

What ails the distribution and exhibition sectors?

– The arm-twisting tactics adopted by many of the top distributors and multiplex chains of the country. Sometimes, all-India distributors arm-twist owners and controllers, mostly of the single-screen cinemas. At other times, the national multiplex chains are unfair in allotting shows because they are in a commanding position. Invariably, it is the small and medium distributors in the distribution sector, and the single-screen cinemas and non-national multiplex chains in the exhibition sector, which are at the receiving end. On what basis do programmers allot shows to new films?
– Oftentimes, the allotment is not on scientific basis. Very often, it is on the basis of hunch. But let me tell you, most of the times, the allocation of shows is not the best or the most impartial.
Why do most films not have good music nowadays?

– The music scene deteriorated mainly because of the tendency of some leading producers to include remixed versions of old Hindi films’ hit songs in new films. Hit songs can be counted on fingertips nowadays. Incidentally, the Phir aur kya chahiye song of this week’s release, ZARA HAT KE ZARA BACH KE, is a hit.
