CBI BOOKS BUNTY WALIA IN BANK FRAUD CASE, WALIA DENIES CHARGES | 29 May, 2023

The CBI has registered a case against film producer and events organiser Bunty Walia alias Jaspreet Singh Walia, his brother, Guneet Singh Walia, their production house, G.S. Entertainment Pvt. Ltd., its CA and others, in an alleged bank fraud which is estimated to have caused IDBI a loss of Rs. 15 crore. The CBI last week carried out searches at the premises of GSEPL, its directors (the Walia brothers), and CA Stany Saldanha. The bank has alleged that GSEPL was sanctioned a foreign currency loan of US $2.35 million (Rs. 10 crore) and a term loan of Rs. 4.95 crore in June 2008 on personal guarantees of Walia and others under the film financing scheme for his Lamhaa, starring Sanjay Dutt. The film was to have been released in 2009 but got delayed. The account was declared a non-performing asset on September 30, 2009.
Subsequently, the IDBI appointed PVR as the sole distributor for the worldwide release of the film subject to the execution of a suitable tripartite agreement on June 2, 2010 between GSEPL, PVR and IDBI. As per the agreement, PVR was to spend Rs. 8 crore on the film’s promotion and post-production expenses. However, PVR allegedly failed to honour its part of the commitment as its revenues from the film totalled Rs. 7.41 crore as against the expenditure of Rs. 8.25 crore.
A forensic audit report revealed that GSEPL had submitted a “fraudulent utilisation certificate”, diverted the bank’s funds and fudged the account books. The IDBI then accused GSEPL of cheating, falsification of records, misappropriation of public money,
misrepresentation and criminal breach of trust, which resulted in the loan being declared fraudulent. The CBI has named Bunty Walia, GSEPL and others under Indian Penal Code sections related to criminal conspiracy, cheating and forgery as well as provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
Bunty Walia has denied the allegations of cheating etc. According to him, they had suffered a loss in the film and despite sharing all the details, the bank officials kept on asking him to “settle the issue”. He added that there was a collusion between a bank official and their appointed auditor to declare him as wilful defaulter, so that they could approach the CBI. Added Walia, “The auditor gave a fabricated report against me.”

Ketan Anand said, ” My Uncle Devanand, the legend’s long lasting impact that he and his films have had on a diaspora of audiences will be captured in my series that I will make as a tribute to the legend.”

He further revealed, “Also, I will direct a sequel to the 1964 war epic Haqeeqat which was directed by my father Chetan Anand and featured Dharmendra, Balraj Sahni and Sanjay Khan.”

While asking about his process of preparing for the negative role in The Night Manager, it was mentioned that he had already delivered a successful adaptation, that is 24. As he confessed that the mention of the Colors TV series has taken him into “kind of a nostalgia.” He asserted, “We were going through the (list of) actors which we had shortlisted for 24.”
Anil Kapoor further added, “I was quite surprised to see there were so many actors, who are today doing so well. Kapil Sharma was one of the people who was considered for 24. There was Jaideep Ahlawat. I was seeing his pictures. I was seeing Pankaj Tripathi’s pictures.”

“I also met Ratna ji (Ratna Pathak Shah) and I said even I auditioned for it. We have all come a long way,” Kapoor said. He added that during that time, concepts such as the writer’s room or seasons were not familiar, as the digital revolution had not yet captured the country. Anil Kapoor remarked, “At least I can say, in India, we were ahead of the curve.”

During the interview, Anil Kapoor was asked if a show like 24 would have been more successful if it were released today, considering the popularity of experimental content. However, the actor declined the idea, and said, “Whether people accept it or not, they do have tremendous regard for the show. 24 also gave the industry so many technicians. They have all made a name for themselves. It was kind of a job… (pool) for the industry.”

If a list of hundred iconic actors ever .. will be made Anil Kapoor will definitely feature in it and that too unarguably.

Salman Khan completes the shooting of Tiger-3,

Megastar Salman Khan jetted off to Abu Dhabi from the Mumbai airport on May 25, 2023 day before yesterday, to attend the shoot of his one of the most awaited film Tiger-3.

He shot some wonderful sequences after reaching on May 25, in the evening and night and again in the morning of May 26 (yesterday).

This happened to be a very hectic schedule as Salman khan King of Bollywood attends the IIFA Awards Function in the evening of May 26 (Yesterday & night).

This year, the IIFA 2023 was hosted by Abhishek Bachchan and Vicky Kaushal.

Abu Dhabi- Yas Island’ is the official host hotel for IIFA 2023, so all the stars and celebrities are staying there including Salman Khan, probably, he got some time to relax.

Why Alia Bhatt didn’t go to the IIFA Awards?

Almost all of the expected and nominated celebrities were seen at the IIFA Awards-2023 but winner of the best actor award female Filmfare Awards-2023 Alia Bhatt wasn’t present.

People started doing their guess work.
Many thought it’s the rivalry amongst the two most prestigious awards of the country that might have stopped her to attend the show, many speculated that Ranbir Kapoor stopped her to go Abu Dhabi as their newly born may not afford the climate changing Conditions.
There were many other guesses and speculations as well.

However, reason for Alia Bhatt not attending the IIFA was totally different.
Alia Bhatt was set to travel abroad for IFFA Awards but Unfortunately, the actress had to skip the fiesta due to a sudden unfortunate happening.

According to sources, Alia Bhatt’s maternal grandfather, Narendra Razdan, is critical. He has been unwell since December 2023.
But his health condition became critical few days back and he was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital, It is said that he wasn’t able to breath properly due to a lung infection. Since his infection got worse, so he was shifted to the Intensive Care Unit. However, it was later decided not to take him to the ICU and to carry on with the treatment within the room itself, to make him safe from any further infection, and also to provide him the required comfort.

So Guys, all the guesses and speculations weren’t correct and the reason for Alia Bhatt not attending the IIFA Awards was related to her Nana’s illness.

Superstar Kamal Haasan has shared his take on The Kerala Story controversy. The film, helmed by Sudipto Sen, released on May 5, 2023 is doing well at the box-office windows, specially in BJP ruling states.

The Kerala Story was in controversy before it’s release, it’s trailer created havoc.
However the makers did the suggested corrections in the old trailer and later broadcasted a new trailer.

After the release, the movie was even banned in some Indian states. However, the project, performed well at the box office.

In between all the arguments, debates, media trials, controversies the film recieved open support by few Politicians.

Many celebrities presented their opinions regarding the film. Now the Vetran Superstar Kamal Haasan has reacted to the controversy surrounding The Kerala Story.

While talking to the media Kamal Haasan shared his take on the matter, he openly said, ” We are creative people in the Film Industry, we should avoid propoganda, I am strictly against this newly developed culture amongst the Filmmakers to gain publicity by making propoganda films and this discriminates citizens. We Indians are known for our rich culture, we are known for our Unity in diversity, let it prevail.”

I would like to mention here that three big companies of theatre chains in UK didn’t release The Kerala Story as they didn’t want to displease their Muslim citizens of UK.

A Film Titled Bombay is complete and it has been submitted for it’s Censor Board Certification.

In the Tinsel Town there are buzz regarding the title of the film, it is being said, that Bombay is now Mumbai so it’s not appropriate to title a film Bombay.

The Film Bombay, before it’s release has started making headlines.

Film Bombay is Produced and written by Firdaus Sheikh and Directed by Sanjay Niranjan.

Producer Firdaus Sheikh and Director Sanjay Niranjan gave the example of the old film Bombay helmed by Maniratnam, some 28 years ago.
They said that Bombay-1995 was also released after Bombay becoming Mumbai, then there wasn’t any controversy regarding the title, that film was controversial because of it’s Hindu, Muslim love angle.

The 1995 released Bombay, starring Arvind Swami, Manisha Koirala, Sonali Bendre and others was a blockbuster. It was a story of a Muslim woman and a Hindu man fall in love and elope to get married as their families object to their relationship.

However, when they move to Bombay, they end up facing the wrath of communal riots.

Bombay helmed by Maniratnam was a beautiful film, originally made in Tamil and dubbed in Hindi.
The film has melodious music and superhit numbers composed by A.R Rahman.

Now the makers of new film Bombay are worried as they are indulged in the controversy regarding the title of the film, although title has been registered with IMPPA.

Director Sanjay Niranjan said, ” My film Bombay is the extention of the old film Bombay, our film showcase Bombay amid 93 to 95.”
He further said, ” Our film essays the story evolving those Filthy, Unkempt, Messy Gangsters from the underworld who were responsible for the Bombay blast and later riots.”
Sanjay Niranjan said, ” Bombay became Mumbai after 1995 even then there are many important places and offices they haven’t changed their identity and are still known by their original names likewise Bombay High Court, Bombay stock exchange, Bombay stockist and others, then why question is being raised for our film ?”

Film is written and Produced by Firdaus Sheikh and Directed by Sanjay Niranjan.

The film stars Gevi Chahal, Deepshika Nagpal, Danish Bhatt, Ashish Narang, Vandana Lalwani, Ganesh Ghai, Akshita Agnihotri, Jassi Singh, Pradeep Kabra, Deepak Bhatia and others.

‘8 A.M. METRO’ REVIEW

Studio 99’s 8 A.M. Metro is the story of the friendship between a married man and a married woman.

Iravati (Saiyami Kher) is married to Umesh (Umesh Kamat) and they have two little children. Iravati has to travel to another city to be by her hospitalised sister’s side. Iravati’s sister, Riya (Nimisha Nair), is due to deliver her first baby and there have been pregnancy complications because of which she has had to be hospitalised.
Iravati meets Pritam (Gulshan Devaiah) in the 8 a.m. metro train she travels daily from home to the hospital. Pritam and she start spending time together. Iravati gets a shock when Riya reveals something to her just a couple of days before her delivery. Iravati gets another shock when she visits Pritam’s house.
What are the two shocks?

Raj R. has written a mature story but it is also quite convenient. The screenplay, written by Raj R., Shruti Bhatnagar, Lakshmi Priyanka, Vijay and Priyanka Nidumolu, Pul Parmar, Safi Quadri and Maitri Shekar, is long-drawn and sometimes contrived too. Why Riya reveals what she reveals, so late in the day is not explained.
Similarly, since the exact nature of friendship between Pritam and Iravati is not underlined, Riya’s constant warnings to Iravati seem a bit contrived, more so because Iravati never clarifies. After all, what would it take Iravati to clear the air about the nature of her relationship? It remains a mystery why Iravati can’t come clean on the point. Agreed, she may be feeling awkward but frankly, the awkwardness ought to have been addressed — at least from the audience’s viewpoint. The twist when Iravati goes to Pritam’s house is a bit unsettling, no doubt. Raj R., Peddinti Ashok Kumar, Anuradha Umarji and Asad Hussain’s dialogues are nice.
Gulshan Devaiah is natural to the core in a difficult role. As Pritam, he gives a good account of himself. He shakes the viewer in the breakdown scene in the crematorium. Saiyami Kher is quite good as Iravati. Umesh Kamat lends lovely support as Umesh. Nimisha Nair is very nice in the role of Riya. Kalpika Ganesh provides fair support as Mridula. Dheer Charan Srivastav is so-so as Iqbal. Rajeev Aneja (as the writer), P. Mahendra (as Ramesh), Moin Jaan (as Iravati’s father), Madhu Swaminath (as Iravati’s maternal aunt), Mayanand Thakar (as Pritam’s publisher), Khushi (as little Iravati), Aahil (as Pritam’s son), Lasya (as Pritam’s daughter), Shivansh (as Iravati’s son), Khushi (as Iravati’s daughter) and the others are okay.
direction is fairly nice. Mark K. Robin’s music is of a good standard. Lyrics (Kausar Munir, Manoj Kumar Jullori and Shahbaaz Khan) are nice. Gulzar’s poetry is rich. Satya’s choreography is functional. Background music ought to have been more impactful. Sunny Kurrapati’s cinematography, with additional cinematography by Sada Sabbati, and aerial cinematography by Njstej, is good. Suresh Bheemagani’s art direction and Laxman Aelay’s production designing are alright. Anil Aalayam’s editing is loose and could’ve been sharper.
On the whole, 8 A.M. Metro has some shock value but that’s such a small part of the otherwise long-drawn film that its box-office chances are very bleak.

‘KATHAL’ REVIEW

Balaji Telefilms and Sikhya Entertainment’s Kathal is the story of a young police officer who is assigned a bizarre case to solve.

Mahima Basor (Sanya Malhotra) is a young police inspector whose senior (Gurpal Singh) assigns her a weird case for investigation. Local MLA Pateria (Vijay Raaz) complains to the police about two jackfruits missing from the tree in his garden. Mahima is asked to investigate the case and book the thieves. In the process, Mahima chances upon another far more serious case — of the gardener’s daughter going missing. Pretending to solve the case of the missing jackfruits, Mahima actually investigates the case of the missing girl. She realises that many girls have gone missing in the past too, in her village, but no action has ever been taken and the mysteries, therefore, remain unresolved.
Ashok Mishra and Yashowardhan Mishra have written a story and screenplay, which keep the audience engaged. At first, the frivolity of the jackfruits case keeps the viewers entertained but once the case of the missing girl surfaces, it becomes entertainment of a different kind. Of course, the comedy of the earlier part is replaced by a more serious drama later, but there is a dash of comedy even in the investigations of the case of the missing girl. Yes, it does seem a bit stretched after a point of time but the two writers intelligently keep introducing new characters every 5-10 minutes to keep the audience’s interest alive. The duo’s dialogues are very beautifully written, adding a great deal to the fun quotient.
Sanya Malhotra shines in the role of police inspector Mahima Basor with a sincere performance. Anantvijay Joshi is fair as constable Saurabh. Vijay Raaz does an extraordinary job as MLA Pateria. Rajpal Yadav is pretty entertaining as the over-zealous TV reporter, Anuj. Neha Saraf lends excellent support as Kunti. Gurpal Singh makes his presence amply felt as SP Angrez Singh Randhawa. Govind Pandey is first-rate as Mishraji. Brijendra Kala is alright as Srivastava. Aeklavya Tomer is nice as Veer Singh. Satish Sharma leaves a fine mark as DSP Sharma. Dhirendra Tiwari has his moments as Sanjay. Namrata Dhamija makes her presence felt as Bindeshwari. Megha Shukla is natural in the role of Pinky. Ashutosh Dwivedi (as Pathak of Karehra police station) is lovely. Deepak Soni is realistic as Brahmadutt Pandey. Ravi Jhankal creates a nice impression as Chandulal. Ambrish Saxena is good in the role of gardener Birwa. Apoorva Chaturvedi is okay as Amiya. Apratim Mishra leaves a fine impression as Rinku paanwala. Ranjan Raj shines as Bhoora. Lucky Khan is good as Balbir Bundela of Chhatarpur police station. Shashi Ranjan (as constable Pahad Singh), Aradhana Paraste (as the sweeper), Vikram Singh (as journalist Pankaj), Vijay Kumar (as Narottam Verma), Shashie Verma (as Nek Singh), Shivani Kahar (as Supul), Sunil Uppal (as Maharaj), Shantanu Pandey (as Lallu), Sanjay Dadich (as Sunil Parihar), Piyush Mandhan (as Nanha), Tapsi Nagraj (as the lady in Anuj’s village home), Ajay Pal (as Saale sahab), Hari Narayan (as Magan), Shiv Katariya (as Jagan), Ashwani Mishra (as Chhagan), Vivek Namdev (as Naveen), Raghubir Yadav (as Gulab Seth), and the others lend nice support.
Yashowardhan Mishra’s direction is very good. He has remained true to the drama and narrated it in an entertaining way. He has also created the village atmosphere very realistically. Ram Sampath’s music and Ashok Mishra’s lyrics are in synch with the requirements of the drama. Harshvir Oberoi’s camerawork is alright. Mohd. Amin Khatib’s action and stunt scenes are okay. Production designing (by Pronita Sushant Pal and Naidita Singh) is of a fine standard. Prerna Saigal’s editing is sharp.
On the whole, Kathal is a fair entertainer. Performances of the actors, dialogues, village ambience and the simplicity of narration are its biggest plus points.

Narcotics Control Bureau deputy director general Gyaneshwar Singh has mentioned in his report on the Aryan Khan drug case that the annual income of Sameer Wankhede, the former Mumbai Zone Director of NCB, and his wife is around Rs 22.75 lakh, but he owns four flats, plots and expensive watches.

It has been mentioned in the report that the price of one of the watches is Rs 22 lakh which is surprising.

Foreign visits undertaken by former NCB officer Sameer Wankhede, booked by the CBI over an alleged Rs 25-crore bribe demand from superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s family to spare his son, Aryan Khan, in a drugs case, is under the scanner of the agency, officials said.

Cordila drugs case has become one of the most talked about cases, as it hits the media headlines every now and then.
Former NCB officer has lost his job and is nowhere now.

It should be mentioned here that the controversial officer Sameer Wankhede on Friday moved to Bombay high court in the alleged 25 crore extortion case regarding the arrest of Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan Khan in 2021. In his appeal, Wankhede said the CBI action against him is an act of revenge.

An urgent hearing at 2.30pm was allowed. On Thursday, the former NCB Mumbai zone chief skipped the CBI summons after he was granted protection from arrest by the Delhi high court till May 22.

The Delhi high court on May 17 granted Wankhede the liberty to approach the Bombay high court for further relief. In the Delhi high court, he also sought a cross-FIR against NCB deputy director-general Gyaneshwar Singh.

Salman Khan signed a 5-year deal with Zee5

Salman Khan starrer Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan has got entry in 100 crore club as the film has earned around 125 crore at the domestic box-office windows and the worldwide collection is far better than many other Superstar’s films.

However it’s not a huge earner when it comes upto the Salman Khan’s starrer previous blockbusters as Salman Khan is the biggest Superstar of the Indian Film Industry.

Megastar Salman Khan is considered to be one of the strongest and formidable superstars in the film business across the continent.

Sources close to the Salman khan King of Bollywood have informed the media that Megastar has done a 5-year deal with Zee5 for satellite rights of all his films, starting this January. The first film under this agreement would be his last release Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan co starring Pooja Hegde and Venkatesh.

Zee has also distributed the film.
Zee5 and Salman Khan’s relationship has been good, Zee has also released Salman Khan starrer Radhe digitally and the response was so good that their servers crashed on day 1.

Source also added that Salman has one of the most envious lineup as a superstar. He recently revealed that there is one film under Karan Johar’s production, while Sooraj Barjatya is planning a film with him tentively titled Prem Ki Shaadi and Sohail Khan is also ready with his subject in addition to a dozen Filmmakers in the queue waiting for Salman Khan’s positive signal to start their films.

The Delhi High Court have asked Twitter to disclose details of users sharing content of Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan
The Delhi High Court on Wednesday asked Twitter to disclose basic subscriber information, including e-mails, IP addresses and phone numbers, of some of its users who are allegedly sharing clips of Shah Rukh Khan’s upcoming film Jawan. The court had earlier directed YouTube, Twitter and Reddit to immediately block and take down the unauthorised broadcast of the film’s content and clips following a lawsuit by the film’s producer Red Chillies Entertainments Pvt Ltd.

Claiming that five accounts were posting some infringing material on Twitter, the counsel for the plaintiff said those “leaking this have access” to the company’s “system” and sought disclosure of the details of these account-users.
“The court directs defendant no 2 (Twitter) to provide information of the accounts with advance service to the counsel of the plaintiff so that the plaintiff can take appropriate action,” ordered Justice C Hari Shankar.
In April, the court had restrained various rogue websites and internet service providers from copying, recording, displaying or releasing any stills, songs, audio and video clips related to Shahrukh Khan | SRK starrer Jawan without a proper licence.
It had also directed YouTube, Twitter and Reddit to immediately block and take down all infringing contents and clips referred by production house.
The court’s interim order came on a plea by the production house seeking to restrain various rogue websites and ISPs and others, who are providing platforms over which content can be uploaded on the internet, from broadcasting or airing any part of Jawan, which is produced by the plaintiff and in which it claims copyright.
The plaintiff had alleged that clips and stills from the film are already available on the internet over various platforms, though no licence, to broadcast or transmit any part of the film has, till date, been granted by the plaintiff to any entity.

It’s really a matter of concern that to publish or broadcast stuffs of the movie Jawan is being considered as an offence.

Now it’s a warning from Red Chillies Entertainment to all including Bollywood Reporter/www.bollywoodreporters.com to be careful while writing,publishing materials related to Jawan.

Theft at Salman Khan’s sister’s Khar situated home

Megastar Salman Khan’s youngest sister, Arpita Khan Sharma filed a complaint with the Mumbai police after her diamond earrings were reported missing from her Khar home. The police have apprehended the culprit and recovered the earrings worth ₹5 lakhs. They arrested a 30-year-old man who worked in Arpita’s home for the theft.
According to a report in PTI, an official of Khar police station said, “Accused Sandip Hegde decamped with diamond-studded gold jewellery worth around ₹5 lakh from Arpita Khan’s residence located on 17th Road in Khar. After the incident came to light, Arpita approached the police and lodged a complaint.”

The official added, “With the help of technical and other inputs, the police nabbed the accused on Tuesday from Thane for the alleged theft of the jewellery.”

Arpita is the adoptive child of screenwriter Salim Khan and actor Helen. She is the youngest sibling in the Khan family. Her brothers are Salman, Arbaaz Khan and Sohail Khan, she has an elder sister Alvira Khan Agnihotri.

She married actor Aayush Sharma on November 18, 2014. They have two children; son Ahil who was born on March 30, 2016 and Ayat who was born on December 27, 2019. She shares a birthday with her uncle.

CBI says there is something fishy, we smell rat

The CBI has raised suspicion over the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) preparing an internal “information note” in which “names of certain other accused” were later included “through modification to suit the proceedings”. The initial note had 27 names but subsequently after modification it was reduced to 10, the FIR said.
Questioning the allegedly arbitrary nature of the probe, the agency has also pointed out that the man who supplied drugs to a friend of actor Shah Rukh Khan son Aryan Khan’s friend Siddharth Shah was not arrested despite him confessing to his role. The FIR said Wankhede and his team did not arrest Siddharth Shah, who admitted to supplying narcotics to Aryan’s friend Arbaaz Merchant. NCB had claimed to have recovered six grams of charas from Merchant during the raid.

No security ..? You are loved take care ..? And then .. no helmet .. !!!!!!”He added, “The fact of the matter is that this is on location shoot on the street of Mumbai ..It is Sunday .. formal permission taken for shoot at a lane in Ballard Estate .. permission sought for Sunday because all offices are shut and there is no public or traffic. One lane in the region blocked off by Police permission for shoot .. the lane barely 30-40 meters .. The dress I wear is my costume for the film ..and .. I am just fooling around by getting on the bike, of a crew member .. not even moving any where, but giving the impression that I travelled to save time .. (laughing emoji).”

Bollywood Megastar Salman Khan on Saturday met West Bengal chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at her residence in Kolkata’s Kalighat. The Trinamool Congress chief greeted Salman and felicitated him with a shawl as it’s a part of rituals in Kolkata and many other states of India, while honouring personalities they gift a shawl called ‘Ang vastram’.
Salman khan King of Bollywood reached Mamta Banerjee’s residence around 4.25 pm, as fans gathered in large numbers on the streets to catch a glimpse of the Megastar. He spent around 30 minutes at the chief minister’s residence, news agency PTI reported citing officials. Later in 2023, she was awarded the Padma Bhushan, the third highest civilian award in India.
Sudha Murthy said that she is a die hard fan of Dilip Kumar and then Shah Rukh Khan, She also praised Salman Khan.

During an event in Lahore that was attended by thousands of Pakistani audience, host Fakhr-E-Alam reportedly made a remark on Manisha Koirala that made the actress uncomfortable. Coming in support of Manisha, Khan reportedly went on a rant against the entire nation while praising his home country India. Feroz khan said, ”
India is a secular country. Muslims there are making a lot of progress. Our President is a Muslim, the PM a Sikh. Pakistan was made in the name of Islam, but look how Muslims are killing each other.”
While talking about his visit to Pakistan, Feroz Khan then added, ” I didn’t want to come to the country but had to..”

” I have not come here on my own. I was invited to come. Our films are so powerful that your government could not stop them for long.”

PAK COURT SAVES RAJ KAPOOR’S HAVELI FROM DEMOLITION

The Peshawar high court recently dismissed a petition seeking ownership over late Raj Kapoor’s haveli in the city. The provincial government had declared the house a national heritage in 2016.

The court dismissed the petition in light of an earlier judgement of the same court pertaining to the acquisition process of thespian Dilip Kumar’s haveli in Peshawar, which too had been declared a national heritage.
The petitioner told the court that his family had purchased the mansion during an auction in 1969. He also said, there were no documents to prove that late Raj Kapoor or his family ever lived or owned this property. However, the court said that the matter ought to be taken to the civil court.

The mansion is in a dilapidated condition and its current owners want to demolish it and construct a commercial plaza in its place. However, all such moves have been stopped by the archaeology department keeping in view its historic importance.

Popular Tamil film actor-producer-director Manobala passed away at his residence in Madras today (3rd May). He was 69 and had been suffering from liver problems. He had undergone an angio treatment earlier this year.

Manobala was known for his unique voice and sense of humour. Beginning his career as an assistant to renowned filmmaker Bharathiraja, he acted in around 700 films, directed about 40 films and also produced a few. Among his well-known films are Sethu, Pithamagan, Oorkavalan, Kaatrin Mozhi and Chakra.
